As life is lived we don't give much thought to the rich tapestry it will ultimately create. It's always lovely to be given the opportunity to relive it through a thoughtful author. What a beautiful job Marja has done honoring the lives of her parents and illustrating their trials and accomplishments as well as her own. While the "war years" were such a small chapter of her parents' lives, the impact on their whole lives cannot be overstated. Ultimately, they and theirs triumphed in a very big way. What a great story about faith and family!

I have read this book twice now.. first time a year ago aboard a Holland America cruise ship - which is how Marja and her family emigrated to the United States almost 60 years ago. I absolutely loved this book - a story of strength, faith and courage! Marja and Mark have been friends of ours for years, and I love that I met her family many years ago including her mother and father - but not knowing this story about concentration camps and the will of this family together to trek to the USA for a better life.. this is such an important story - MUST READ - and then read again! I love this family and you will too!
